DANGELMAIER, RUTH//KONEMANN//PINTURA
The work and life of Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio (1571 – 1610), exerted a fascination like no other artist of his time. He overcame the conventions of the Renaissance; ideals of beauty and the exaltation of reality meant nothing to him. His mastery of working with light and shadow, as well as his revolutionary treatment of sacred and profane themes, renewed the world of painting and made him the initiator of the Baroque.
